Smart diagnosis
Three questions, one initial assessment
Choose the type of unit, the fault and when it started. The tool shows possible causes, what you can check in the meantime and how urgent it is.
- No sign-up and no details required
- A clear recommendation for the next step
- Continue straight to booking with the details already filled in
Quick fault check
Answer three short questions and get an initial assessment of the problem and the next step.
An initial assessment only; it does not replace an inspection by a certified technician.
Fault guide
Pick a fault and get the full picture
For each fault: the possible causes, simple and safe checks, and when a technician is needed.
The AC is not cooling
The unit runs and blows air, but the room does not cool down or the air is lukewarm.
Possible causes
- Clogged filters restricting the airflow
- The wrong mode or temperature on the remote
- An outdoor unit that is blocked, dirty or in direct sun
- Low refrigerant caused by a leak
- A fault in the fan, the compressor or the control board
What you can check yourself
- Check that the unit is in cooling mode and set below room temperature
- Replace the batteries in the remote
- Clean the filters in the indoor unit
- Make sure nothing is blocking the outdoor unit
If it still does not cool after these checks, or the outdoor unit never starts, book a technician. Topping up refrigerant without finding the leak is only a temporary fix.
The AC will not turn on
No response to the remote, no indicator light, or the unit shuts down right after starting.
Possible causes
- A tripped breaker in the electrical panel
- Weak batteries or a faulty remote
- A failed control board or power supply
- A loose electrical connection
What you can check yourself
- Check that the breaker for the AC is switched on
- Replace the remote batteries and try again from close up
- Try the manual button on the indoor unit, if it has one
- Disconnect the unit from power for a few minutes, then reconnect
If the breaker trips again, stop trying to start the unit and book an inspection. A breaker that keeps tripping points to an electrical fault.
Water is leaking from the AC
Dripping from the indoor unit, a damp patch on the wall or water on the floor.
Possible causes
- A drain pipe blocked by dust, mould or dirt
- A disconnected drain pipe or the wrong fall
- A full or cracked drain tray
- Dirty filters causing ice that then melts
What you can check yourself
- Switch the unit off and move electrical devices away from the area
- Clean the filters
- Check that the outdoor drain pipe is not kinked or blocked
If the dripping continues, leave the unit off and book a technician. Water near electrics or on plasterboard walls can cause real damage.
Unusual noise
A new buzzing, rattling, squealing or knocking sound from the indoor or outdoor unit.
Possible causes
- Loose brackets or screws on the outdoor unit
- Dirt or a foreign object in the fan
- Worn bearings in the fan motor
- A compressor fault
What you can check yourself
- Work out where the noise comes from: the indoor or the outdoor unit
- Check for leaves or objects next to the outdoor unit
- Record a short video of the noise. It helps a lot with the diagnosis
Metallic scraping, loud knocking or electrical buzzing: switch the unit off and book an inspection, to avoid damage to the motor or compressor.
Ice on the unit
A layer of ice on the indoor coil or on the pipework at the outdoor unit.
Possible causes
- Clogged filters and weak airflow
- Low refrigerant
- A fault in the indoor fan
- Running for long periods at a very low setting
What you can check yourself
- Switch the unit off and let the ice melt completely
- Clean the filters
- Restart in fan-only mode for a few minutes, then switch to cooling
If the ice returns, there is probably low refrigerant or a fan fault. Do not scrape the ice off: it damages the coil fins.
Bad smell
A musty, sour or burnt smell when the air conditioner starts.
Possible causes
- Mould and bacteria on the coil and blower wheel
- Dirty filters
- Standing water in the drain tray
- A burnt smell: a possible electrical fault
What you can check yourself
- Clean the filters and let them dry completely
- Before switching off, run the unit in fan mode for a few minutes to dry it out
A musty smell that keeps coming back needs professional cleaning and sanitising. A burnt or melting-plastic smell: switch off immediately, disconnect the power and call a technician.
Weak airflow
The unit runs, but far less air comes out than usual.
Possible causes
- Clogged filters
- A dirty blower wheel
- A low fan speed setting
- A dirty or frozen coil
What you can check yourself
- Check the fan speed on the remote
- Clean the filters
- Make sure the louver opens as usual
If the airflow is still weak after cleaning the filters, the blower wheel and coil probably need a deep clean.
An error code on the display
Letters, numbers or a blinking light on the unit display.
Possible causes
- A temperature sensor fault
- A communication problem between the indoor and outdoor units
- System protection after heavy load or extreme heat
- Each code means something different per manufacturer and model
What you can check yourself
- Write down or photograph the code on the display
- Photograph the model sticker on the side of the indoor unit
- Disconnect the power for a few minutes and try again
If the code comes back after a restart, send us the photos. The code and the model tell us a lot before the visit.
How it works
From your call to a working AC
- 01
Tell us what happened
By phone, on WhatsApp or through the form. A photo or short video of the fault helps a lot.
- 02
Initial diagnosis
We work out the likely cause in advance, so the technician arrives prepared and with the right parts.
- 03
Scheduling
Pick the days and time window that suit you, and we confirm an exact appointment.
- 04
Repair and explanation
The technician explains the findings before starting, does the work and leaves the place clean.
Yes, and we recommend it. You can attach photos and videos to the service request form or send them on WhatsApp. A picture of the unit, of the model sticker and of the fault helps us diagnose in advance and arrive with the right parts.
Make sure the unit is in cooling mode and set below room temperature, replace the remote batteries, clean the filters and check that the outdoor unit is not blocked. If it still does not cool, book an inspection. You can also use our quick diagnosis tool.
Usually a blocked or disconnected drain pipe, a full drain tray or dirty filters. Switch the unit off to avoid damage to the wall and the electrics, and book an inspection. Do not keep running a unit that drips indoors.
Only if it is genuinely low on refrigerant, and then the leak has to be found and repaired first. A healthy system does not consume refrigerant, so topping it up without fixing the leak is a temporary fix that keeps coming back.
